Let yourself be swept away by the magic of southern Morocco on a 2-day getaway from Marrakech to the dunes of Erg Lihoudi. Cross the High Atlas, travel through the Draa Valley and reach M’Hamid, where your camel adventure to the desert camp begins. Enjoy the sunset and a night under the stars in Berber tents. The next day, discover Tamegroute and its historic library, visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and return to Marrakech through some of the most spectacular landscapes in southern Morocco.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech – M’hamid – Erg Lihoudi (440 km)
An early start sets us up for a day that will take us through landscapes that seem to belong to another planet. We cross the High Atlas mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass, more than 2,200 metres above sea level, with views of green valleys, villages clinging to the hillsides and peaks that seem to touch the sky.
We pass through Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, and continue on to Agdz, where a traditional lunch awaits us (included). The route then follows the vast Draa Valley, the largest palm grove in the world, dotted with thousands of mud-brick kasbahs that look like the ruins of a lost civilisation.
On arrival in M’hamid, we are welcomed with mint tea before mounting our camels and crossing the dunes to the Erg Lihoudi camp. We watch the sun set over the desert before dinner beneath a star-studded sky. Dinner and a magical night in Berber tents.
