Fez

The Spiritual Capital

The world's largest medieval medina, age-old tanneries and the oldest university on the planet.

Fez is Morocco's oldest city and its spiritual and intellectual capital. Its medieval medina, Fes el-Bali, is the largest pedestrian zone in the world and is home to the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest university in the world still in operation.

Getting lost among its 9,000 narrow alleyways is a unique experience: the Chouara tanneries, the madrasas with their mosaics, the pottery workshops and the spice souks create an atmosphere like no other.
